In 1996, the Environment Agency at the time (later the Ministry of the Environment) invited the public to join the selection for “a sound environment (soundscape) that people want to leave for the future generations and cherish as the symbol of each region of the country”. Based on the screening and selection conducted by the Japan Soundscape Study Group, we will introduce the “100 Soundscape of Japan” found to be significant in preserving the sound environment.
Aomori Oirase Mountain Stream

A 14km mountain stream starting from Konokuchi of Lake Towada to Yakeyama. The murmuring of a stream, magnificent changes in waters and waterfalls scattered along the stream create a soundscape together with the primeval forest.
●Location: Towada City, Aomori Prefecture
●Access: About 2 hours from JR Shin Aomori Station by bus

1996年に当時の環境庁（現・環境省）が「全国各地で人々が地域のシンボルとして大切にし、将来に残していきたいと願っている音の聞こえる環境（音風景）」を広く公募。日本の音風景検討会の選定審査の結果に基づき、音環境を保全する上で意義があると認められた“日本の音風景100選”を紹介します。
青森県・奥入瀬渓流

十和田湖の子ノ口（このくち）から焼山に至る14㎞の渓流。繊細に流れるせせらぎ、あるいは荘厳に流れる水の変化や川の両側に点在する滝とともに原生林が一体となった音風景をつくっています。
