Like many people, I had to adapt in 2020. Since international travel was not an option, I instead explored the smaller islands that are reachable by ferry from Okinawa. That is, of course, whenever the current conditions allowed. I did not travel to outer islands, when Okinawa Prefecture had issued travel bans or when we had a large number of new daily cases in Okinawa Prefecture. I also always wore a mask, when social distancing was not possible.
That being said, I spent a weekend on Tokashiki in July 2020. Here is your chance to explore Tokashiki with me and either relive some of your own memories or to get a taste of Okinawa. I am sure there will be a time when international travel will be possible again and there is a good reason that Okinawa is known as Japan’s Hawaii.
