The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake caused great damage to Kumamoto Castle, including the damage to the castle tower and many other important historical buildings, and the collapse of stone walls. When I visited two years ago, the collapse of the stone wall had occurred in many places, and it was only possible to look at the castle tower from a distance. After that, hard work was carried out for restoration, and by building a scaffolding and temporarily constructing a special passage, it became possible to enter the castle tower up close. There are still some places where the scars of the earthquake remain painfully, and the castle tower is still under restoration, but I would like to visit while paying homage to the efforts of the people concerned so far.

熊本城は２０１６年の熊本地震で、天守閣をはじめ、多くの重要な歴史的建築物が破損し、石垣が崩れるなど、非常に大きな被害を受けました。二年前に訪れたときは、石垣の崩壊が多くの場所で起きており、天守閣を遠目に眺めるのがやっとの状況でした。その後、復旧に向けての懸命な作業が進められ、この度、足場を組み特別の通路を仮設することにより、天守閣の間近まで入ることができるようになりました。まだ、地震の傷跡が痛々しく残る箇所もあり、天守閣も修復中ではありますが、これまでの関係者の努力に敬意を表しつつ、訪問したいと思います。
