In this video, I have visited Prayagraj to attend Kumbh Mela 2019. Kumbh Mela is one the largest gathering of humans on the earth. People from all over India come to take a holy dip in sangam during Kumbh. As per the data, a total of 100 million people came to Kumbh in 2013 and that’s 1/10th of total population of India. Traditionally, 4 fairs are widely recognized as the Kumbh Melas: the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha, Haridwar Kumbh Mela, the Ujjain Simhastha. These 4 fairs are held periodically at one of the following destinations by rotation: Prayagraj or Allahabad, Haridwar, Nashik district (Nashik and Trimbak), and Ujjain. The main festival site is located on the banks of a river: the Ganges (Ganga) at Haridwar; the confluence (Sangam) of the Ganges and the Yamuna and the invisible Sarasvati at Allahabad; the Godavari at Nashik; and the Shipraat Ujjain. Bathing in these rivers is thought to cleanse a person of all their sins.
At any given place, the Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years. At Haridwar and Allahabad, a Maha (“Great”) Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years, with an Ardha (“Half”) Kumbh Mela six years later.
