In this video we’ll show you Nankinmachi (南京町), Kobe.
Nankinmachi is one of three major Chinatowns of Japan along with the ones in Yokohama, and Nagasaki. There are roughly 100 Chinese businesses within a narrow confines that cover 270 meters from east to west and 100 meters from south to north. The main street is a crossroad with Seian-mon Gate at the west, Choan-mon Gate at the east, and Kaiei-mon Gate at the south. The north is connected with the Motomachi Shopping Street. Most stores in Nankinmachi are restaurants and food businesses that serve light meals. Some stores sell dim sum, snacks, steamed meat buns, etc. in front of their stores. You can enjoy trying out the variety of foods in the stores. As the Nankinmachi district does not have any public litter cans, be sure to take your trash back to the place you bought it from after eating. There also are stores that handle cooking ingredients, sundries, and hotels. Nankinmachi becomes quite busy with local people who come to do shopping as well as tourists on holidays.
