Seascape Photography in Japan: Shirahama Beach in Shizuoka Prefecture・日本の風景写真: 伊豆半島の白浜海岸(静岡県下田市)

In this week’s video of seascape photography in Japan, we visit Shirahama Beach in Shizuoka Prefecture on the Izu Peninsula, Japan (伊豆半島の白浜海岸・静岡県下田市).

Since most beaches south of Tokyo have dark, gray sand beaches, the Shirahama Beach is refreshing for its beautiful white/beige sand and clear turquoise waters.

Despite being a bit far from Tokyo, one can easily spot license plates from Chiba, Saitama, Tokyo, Yamanashi, and Shizuoka Prefectures whenever you visit regardless of the time of year. Summers are naturally crowded, making it difficult to compose a shot without any people. Other times of the year are much easier for composing a shot, especially during cooler months when the air is dryer making for a crisp, clear horizon.

Info on how to access Shirahama Beach either by car or train has been posted at my blog:
