Living the Fast & furious Tokyo drift experience, Shibuya Scramble Crossing, Restaurants in Japan.
Although Japan isn’t a very popular holiday destination among Indians, I was always fascinated by Japan due to the countries technological advancements & culture. Japan is home to many “firsts and only” tech wonders in the world. Less than 2 lakh Indians visit Japan in a year and this number was even lesser till a few years ago. The number is increasing with the growing relations between the two nations, Japan’s Kyoto & India’s Kashi have been declared twin cities. Although the Japanese are very friendly, language is a huge barrier and things get a little confusing due to the difference in societal culture, hence I thought this video could help a lot of Indians planning to visit Japan.
Before starting the trip we found out how the weather in Tokyo Japan would be in the month of April. We chose Air India as our carrier as it was the only airline providing a direct flight to Tokyo Japan. This video starts with my travel from New Delhi, India to Narita Airport Tokyo Japan. Each ticket return cost us around INR 45000 ($600) booked around 4 months in advance. The inflight service was pretty terrible so was the food (picture in video).
After landing at Narita, I filled up the immigration form and the immigration in a Jiffy. The Japanese immigration took our Biometrics while stamping our passports. We had a 15 days visa and our plan was to visit Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto & Hiroshima. After immigration, we moved to baggage collection and customs clearance which took a while as there was a long queue.
Once out of customs I checked out for SIM cards and Wi-Fi devices, both seemed to be quite pricey for the amount of data offered, additionally, I found out that all the accommodations we booked in Japan offered pocket Wi-Fi with High speed 4G and no data limit, free of cost. Giving the SIM cards and Wi-Fi devices a miss we moved further to obtain some local currency. We already had our International currency/ forex card from one of our banks pre-loaded with a hundred thousand Yens, which we further topped up from time to time. International currency cards cost far less than exchanging the currency locally. Travelers can fund these currency cards through their credit card as well. We had already made an online purchase of the 14 day JR pass. This pass would enable us to travel across Japan via Japan rail i.e. bullet train, regular train & local trains. The online purchase generates a receipt, which can be shown at the JR counter at Narita airport to get a JR pass. Our 14-day pass cost around 50 thousand Yen.
Buy JR pass here:
Note: JR pass can only be bought from outside of Japan, and the same shall be shipped to you immediately at your home address, so make sure you book 3 weeks in advance.
After getting the JR pass we moved to the Narita Express ticket counter. One Way Ticket to Shibuya station in Tokyo costs around ¥3000. We did not have to wait long for the next train to Tokyo as the train frequency is pretty good.
We landed at the Shibuya station in an hour. Moving out from the South exit we located a taxi stand, hopped on into one, and reached the air BnB. As it was Sakura season in Tokyo, hotels in Tokyo were mostly either sold out or exorbitantly expensive. After a short 5 minute ride from Shibuya station, we reached BnB. Entering the building was a herculean task. Even after getting some instructions in some sort of broken English from the host, we found it very difficult to get into the Apartment complex. 30 minutes after we were in the BnB, it was a nice, clean, and cozy place & our stay for the next 4 days. In the evening we took the local and visited Yodobashi camera at Akihabara to pick up some electronics. Once back and ravenously hungry we went for dinner at Nagi Shokudo 4.4 (398)·Vegan restaurant,
which was round the corner from our BnB. They serve awesome Fried mock meats, vegetable platters, miso soups, tofu curry, and rice! Each priced at about ¥1200 per meal. At around midnight we pushed for the world-famous Shibuya crossing. The place was chock a block with people. Checked out the famous Hachiko statue at Shibuya crossing. Coffee lovers can hang out at the Starbucks which looks over the crossing with some breathtaking views but be ready for the long wait.
