Hokkaido “Shiretoko”
Shiretoko, which is a peninsular located at the southernmost point in the world where drift ice berths in the northern hemisphere, protruding north-northeast from the northeastern part of Hokkaido.
The name of “Shiretoko” is derived from the Ainu word, which means the end of the earth. Like the meaing of its name, Shiretoko peninsular is made up of steep cliffs jut out into the Sea of Okhotsk with precious primitive nature intact and registered as a World Natural Heritage Site.
