– 海軍 (kaigun), which is Japanese for Navy. Most Japanese people are surprised when I use that word, haha!!
5. What is your favorite thing about Japanese culture and why?
好きな日本文化は何ですか?
– What intrigues me about Japan is that while other countries try too hard to be like America, Japan incorporates American things and make them their own without losing their identity.
6. What is one thing that has surprised you during your time in Japan?
日本で驚いたことは何ですか?
– That fat people are more common than I thought, especially since hearing all the stuff about “Only 3% of Japanese are overweight or obese”
7. Have you picked up any Japanese habits?

– I do quick bows and make sounds. In my area of Ohio, it’s common if you see someone you recognize to give a quick nod to say hi, so extending that to quick bows was a pretty smooth transition.
8. Where is the next place you want to travel to in Japan and why?

9. If you could start your life in Japan again is there anything you would do differently?
もし、また日本の生活を初めてからスタートするなら、変わりたいことがありますか?
– Learn more Japanese and stick with continuing to learn more. Also, going out and socializing more.
10. What’s the best single piece of advise you have for first timers to Japan?
日本に初めて来る人にアドバイスとかありますか?
– Be open to new things, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, make Japanese friends, and get out there. You didn’t come to Japan to eat McDonald’s all the time, did you?
