Opened in the year 1886, Atami Plum Garden (Atami Baien) has a collection of 472 plum trees comprised of some 59 varieties of the fruit and one tree over 100 years old. The plum trees begin blossoming near the end of November and reach full bloom near January’s close. Won’t you come and see the earliest bloom in all of Japan and the city warm even in winter, Atami?
Atami is conveniently located just 40 minutes by bullet train from Tokyo, enabling easy side trips from the capital.
Attractions include the sea and mountains, numerous hot springs, mountain passes that provide stunning views of Mount Fuji, as well as the chance to sample sushi, expertly made from freshly caught fish.
