Sendai (仙台) is the capital city of Miyagi prefecture in Japan. It is also one of the largest cities in Japan. JR Sendai station (JR 仙台駅) is in the center of the city and is one of the large stations on JR East Railways. Major Shinkansens (Bullet Trains) that travel in the Northeast (Tohoku) region all stop at Sendai. Around Sendai are two large shopping avenues (Aoba-dori and Ichibancho) are Sendai’s version of Ginza shopping district in Tokyo.

Sendai suffered a devastating Tsunami as a result of the Great Japan Earthquake in March 2011. The tsunami devastated a large section of the coastline but spared the center of the city. While the Sendai Airport was hit by the Tsunami (because it is closer to the coast) the Sendai Train Station is spared. Now the Sendai city is trying to get back to normal with all it’s vigor and vitality.

Enjoy.
