00:00- Today let’s head to Miura to explore the Kawazu cherry Blossoms in the beautiful Komatsugaike Park. Let’s look at the flowers, roam around, and try some food. This will be a cool and relaxing trip. So join me in exploring Japan.

01:07- Getting to the Miurakaigan Station is very simple and takes about 25 minutes from the Yokosuka-chuo Station. Once you arrive, you will see a little farmer’s market where you can buy a variety of produce.

01:20- Past the market, the sign will direct you to the Kawazu cherry Blossoms area. Make a right at this sign and walk for about 15 minutes.

02:04- On your way you will see these signs pointing you to the right direction. Follow these signs.

02:44- These are not your everyday cherry blossoms. Despite looking almost identical to the untrained eye, these are actually Kawazu cherry Blossoms. Who knew that there is anything like this?

03:08- The city of Miura is located in the Kanagawa Prefecture only about an hour and a half from Tokyo Station heading South. The population of Miura is just above 44 thousand people. Fishing is a major industry here.

03:24- You will see these yellow mustard flowers blooming everywhere on your path. They are also known by the name Rapeseed or the Nanohana flowers in Japanese. Nanohana translates to a “vegetable flower” or a “wild flower” and they are actually edible and are used to make canola oil.

04:04- This is a little park with a rest area, a bathroom, and a map of the Komatsugaike Park to where we are heading to. Notice there are a lot of flowers here and people are enjoying themselves, playing, and having outdoor picnics.

04:50- This is one of the entrances to the Komatsugaike Pond that is very beautiful especially during this time of season. Komatsugaike Park is also located in the vicinity.

05:28- In Japan, as you can see people love their dogs and their pets in general.

06:08- As you can probably tell by now there are a lot of farmers here. They grow many different vegetables like cabbage and radish that you will see throughout the fields.

06:44- This is a large marsh or swamp known as the Komatsugaike Pond (小松ヶ池) or Omatsugaike. This pond is about 3.7 hectares which is over 9 acres. It is a natural habitat for birds such as herons and grebes.

07:07- This is a little shrine called Itsukushima Benzaiten where you can stop and pray.

08:06- Heading up these little stairs you will find lots of little areas to buy food ranging from sweets to savory. So let’s check it out and see what they got.

08:35- Yakitori is a Japanese style chicken kebobs. Very delicious.

10:38- WOW What a luck! Anytime you roll a double dice you win not one but two whole bananas dipped in Chocolate!

10:50- So what exactly are these Kawazu Cherry Blossoms? Known as the Kawazu Sakura or the Kawazu Zakura is a type of cherry blossom that blooms earlier than your regular sakura. Kawazu cherry blossoms bloom in February and last for about 1 month – a very long time compared to the regular sakura.

13:55- I could not resist the temptation of trying some yakitori.

16:20- There is so much food here that it’s worth trying everything! The deep fried potato with butter and corn definitely hit the spot!

17:29- Like I said on these farms they grow corn, broccoli, radish, cabbage and many other things.

17:59- In Japan I am never surprised to see a vending machine in the middle of nowhere.

18:46- Heading back from this fantastic Kawazu Cherry Blossoms trip in Miura I highly suggest you visit it, try the food, and explore the area if you happen to be here.

18:59- PREVIEW* Next let’s head to the Miura Kaigan Beach in Miura. Let’s stroll around the beach and the vicinity. So join me – only on the Epic Travel Adventures!
