: The Seoul Botanical Garden was established in Magok, the last remaining development site in Seoul, to introduce 12 urban plants and plant cultures around the world and enhance the ecological sensitivity of the city.

As domestic arboretums and botanical gardens are concentrated in the suburbs, there has been a shortage of infrastructure for urban residents to enjoy plants in their daily lives.
The Seoul Botanical Garden was built to provide relief, consolation, learning and inspiration from plants in close proximity to citizens. It is also a project that focuses on the 2013 Blue City Declaration, which contains the philosophy of “Seoul is a park and citizens are the owners of the park.”

The Seoul Botanical Garden will serve as a bridgehead for the spread of urban garden culture and a lifelong education institution by operating a curriculum that is divided into life cycle and level, from children to senior citizens, and from beginners to experts who are new to gardening. They will vividly show the history and culture of mankind that have co-existed with plants for tens of thousands of years, and foster citizens who recognize and act on environmental issues on their own. They will hold four-season events and festivals to revitalize citizens’ lives and enhance our dignity as a city that respects life through plant exhibitions and conservation.

Plants will take the lead in urban culture and prepare to stand tall as Asia’s representative botanical gardens that take the lead in solving climate change and environmental problems.

The botanical garden is ‘waiting’. I ask for your silent support and interest to grow into a botanical garden that has been loved for centuries, even if it is slow.
