Walking around Salmin Park Chitose.
Indian Water Wheel :
The Indian water wheel is a facility for catching salmon that run up the river.
When a salmon enters the basket of a water wheel, it is rotated by hydraulic power and landed. Introduced to Japan by Kazutaka Ito, the first fisheries section chief of the Hokkaido Agency. It is famous for being installed on the Chitose River, which runs through the city of Chitose in Hokkaido, and is almost the only one in Japan that can be operated using only hydraulic power. The Salmon Hometown Chitose Aquarium is a facility for tourists and others to visit based on this Indian water wheel.
Originated in North America. However, although it bears the Indian name, it seems that it was not invented by Native Americans. It should be noted that salmon that run up the river are not fat and their eggs are hard and not suitable for food, so the purpose is mostly for breeding business.
