Illuminated Flower Park
One of the most gorgeous light shows to be seen in Japan is the Nabana no Sato Illumination in Mie Prefecture!
This flower park on the island of Nagashima in Kuwana City hosts seasonal flower illumination shows; the best of which is the winter illumination.
The winter illumination makes use of over 8 million LED lights. The result resembles that of a fairytale story – parts of it even look like the lantern scene from the newer Disney movie Tangled!
Each year the executives in charge of the festival choose a new theme for the illumination – previous themes have included “Nature”, “Niagara Falls”, and “Heidi, Girl of the Alps”. The constant to this impressive show is the light tunnel shown in the cover photo on this page. This 200 meter long tunnel uses approximately 1.2 million light bulbs and is probably the highlight of each year’s event.
In addition to the light tunnel is the recently added Kawazu Sakura light tunnel. This floral pink light tunnel is about half the length of the original light tunnel. The hot pink glow that radiates through the space is meant to resemble the cherry blossom trees that grow throughout Japan.
After walking through the various light scenes of the park, visitors can make their way to the “ashiyu” – a foot spa! It is a complementary service offered to visitors of the park and is a great way to relieve tired feet after the long walk through Nabana no Sato.
Entry to the park costs 2000 yen, but with this comes a 1000 yen coupon that can be used for various souvenirs, foods, or drinks inside the park.
Nabana no Sato is accessible via JR or Kintetsu train and is located a 10 minute bus ride away from Kuwana Station!
