栃木県日光市 世界遺産 日光の社寺 日光東照宮、二荒山神社、輪王寺
Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Rinnoji Temple, and Nikko Futarasan Shrine in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture Japan, have been registered as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites as Shrines and Temples of Nikkō.
Nikko Toshogu, one of the shrines and temples of Nikko, is a shrine dedicated to Tosho Daigongen, who deified Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun of the Edo Shogunate.
After the death of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the body was buried in Kunozan in Sunpu (now Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture Japan).
After the first anniversary of Ieyasu Tokugawa’s death, he was reburied at Toshosha in Nikko according to his will, and was given the Shinto god of Tosho Daigongen on February 21, 3rd year of Genwa.
At that time, it was enshrined by syncretistic fusion of Shintoism and Buddhism rituals, but due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji era, Nikko became the form of two shrines and one temple divided into the present Nikko Toshogu, Futarasan Shrine, and Rinnoji.

栃木県日光市の日光東照宮、輪王寺、日光二荒山神社を含めた二社一寺は「日光の社寺」としてユネスコ世界文化遺産に登録されました。
日光の社寺の一つになっている日光東照宮は、江戸幕府初代将軍の徳川家康を神格化した東照大権現を祀る神社で、日本全国にある東照宮の総本社的存在となっています。
徳川家康の死後、遺体は駿府(現在の静岡県静岡市)の久能山に葬られましたが、一周忌を経てから家康の遺言通りに日光の東照社に分霊後、元和3年2月21日に東照大権現の神号が与えられました。
分霊後は薬師如来を本地仏とする神仏習合によって祀られていましたが、明治時代の神仏分離によって、日光は現在の日光東照宮、二荒山神社、輪王寺に分けられた二社一寺の形式になりました。
