In today’s Japan Travel series, let’s explore the inside of Nagoya Station, Japan.

Nagoya Station is the largest railway station in Japan and in the world, known locally as Meieki.

This is a major railway station in Nakamura-ku, Nagoya, Japan. One of the largest train stations in the world and the headquarters of the Japan Central Railway Company (JR Central). Much of this space is located in the JR Central Towers above the station, as well as the underground lounge below. This complex station was completed on December 20, 1999.

Nagoya Station is accessible from the 1st floor of the station building. Here you will find all box offices, ticket machines and ticket gates. The basic structure of the station is quite simple. There are two main exits with the Central Walkway running between them. On the east side of the building is the Sakura-Dori Exit, and on the west side of the building is the Taiko-Dori Exit. Having large clocks at either end of this aisle is a useful rendezvous. The Gold Clock is at the end of Sakura-Dori aisle and the Silver Clock is at the end of Taiko-Dori.

There is a taxi ramp outside of both exits. However, the majority of city bus stops are located east of Sakura-Dori of the station. Outside the West Taiko-Dori Exit, you can find a ticket office and a JR Expressway bus stop.

There are five sets of ticket gates for the JR lines. This means you can quickly access the rail lines from any approach to the station building.

There are two sets of ticket gates for the shinkansen rails on the Taiko Dori west side of the station: the North Shinkansen Ticketing Gate and the South Shinkansen Ticket Gate. There are also transit gates for direct travel between the JR lines and the shinkansen lines.

If you have time, I encourage you to explore Nagoya Station. There are so many shops, so much to see and eat that you can have a good time, well, all day.
