Miyajima is a little island in Hiroshima Bay, western Japan. It is recognized for its beautiful forests and old temples. Just offshore, the majestic, orange Great Torii Gate is partly submerged at high tide. It signals the entrance to the Itsukushima Shrine, which was first established in the 12th century. Close by, the Museum of History & Folklore has artistic artifacts in a 19th-century merchant’s home.
