The group was demanding the end of harassment of students, specifically in terms of allowing them to express political views, education reform, to scrap outdated rules and to address alleged abuse in schools that have dominated news coverage.

According to the organization’s study of the economic growth of countries in the Asia-Pacific region after the Covid-19 outbreak, Thailand’s economy could contract by 8.3 per cent or as much as 10.4 per cent if the trade and tourism sectors, as well as political uncertainty, still worsen by the end of this year.

• But Scott Morrison said border will first open to countries with low virus levels
