Travel and food. A trip, sposored by Yamaha Motors Phils., Corp., that feature the northern-most parts of Japan of Sapporo, Abashiri and Takayama in the winter then culminating in a grand farewell party in the culturally-historic city of Kyoto. Travelling by land, sea and air alone and seeing the picturesque landscape of Northern Japan covered in snow (considered one of the purest in the world), is already a sight to behold and a memory that will last forever. Ten days of adventure, history, discovery and commune with nature – ice sculpture, frozen sea (drift ice) boat cruise, geese migration, museums, meeting Clione – the “sea angel”, the old houses of the old town of Takayama and the old and traditional barn houses of Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO heritage site. We were also treated to an array of dishes from the region, surf and turf – snow crabs, locally caught in those waters in the winter time, and the highly-priced Hida beef from the Hida region, will rival the Kobe beef in grade, served sukiyaki-style, charcoal-grilled with sweet miso in Takayama or even sashimi-style in Sammachi. Truly a gem of a trip and an escape from bustling Tokyo and Osaka.
