Bit of a mixed bag this one, we left Dunvegan, and headed over to the very Northern tip of Skye – Rubha Hunish, the plan being, to put in at Duntulm, and negotiate the Headland finding out what’s on offer. When we arrived, we were put off by the carry down a steep grassy embankment, it wasn’t impossible by any means, but easier launches are better. So, up the road to Kimaluag Bay, and the little landing spot of Port Gobhlaig. Upon arrival, I was made aware of a hideous, familiar stench – no not Matt’s green Crocs, something even more hideous – rotting kelp. As you can see in the video, launching through that would’ve been like a Japanese game show. Putting in would’ve been bad, you could wash yourself down with sea water, but getting out? Oh my God this stuff stinks like shit. After this disappointment I headed to Camas Morback the opposite way we came from. This was a great launch (See the last video of this trip) but too far away from our preferred area of paddling, as it was getting late now, but even worse, it began to RAIN. So we were resigned to a day off paddling, and just ate, and brewed up and chilled out. Just as we thought the opportunity had passed, the rain stops, the clouds break up, out comes the Sun, and we’re back to High Summer!!! So off we go, opting for empty boats to lug down the grassy knoll, and a limited paddle up to the tide race and back.
