A ride onboard a Shinkansen high-speed train operated by JR Hokkaido. The 10-car H5 Series Shinkansen trains operated by JR Hokkaido are based off the older E5 Series operated by JR East and are very similar.
The portion of rail featured on this video is the Hokkaido Shinkansen, which opened on 26 March 2016. From Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, the line heads south, through the undersea Seikan Tunnel, and links up with the Tōhoku Shinkansen at Shin-Aomori for through-services to Tokyo. Intermediate stops are Kikonai (Hokkaido Prefecture) and Okutsugaru-Imabetsu (Aomori Prefecture).
Construction is under way to extend the Hokkaido Shinkansen from its current Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Terminus to Sapporo by March 2031.
The train is operating on a full-length Hayabusa service bound for Tokyo, departing Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto at 12:44pm.
