The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is a large-scale aquarium set up at the site of the Okinawa International Ocean Expo in 1975 (Okinawa State-owned Okinawa Memorial Park-Ocean Expo Park) with the theme of “showing the mystery of Okinawa vividly”. It is also the Okinawa Ocean Expo Memorial Park. The aquarium was officially opened in November 2002. “Churaumi (美ら海) means “clear and beautiful ocean” in the Okinawa dialect.
There are 77 aquariums for viewing in the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. The main aquarium “Kuroshio Sea” runs through the first and second floors of the aquarium and is the world’s largest shark breeding tank. The display window of the aquarium is 8.2 meters high, 22.5 meters wide, and 60 centimeters thick. It can clearly watch the whale shark, the world’s largest fish, which is 7.5 meters long, cruising and eating.
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium displays the mysterious world of marine life in Okinawa. You can touch marine creatures living in coral reefs, such as starfish and sea cucumbers. You can also enjoy movies that show the various creatures and ecosystems that live in Okinawa from the coast to the distant sea, and reveal the connection between Okinawa people and the ocean. The Coral Sea is shimmering and contains more than 800 coral populations.
The largest fish in the world swims in the Kuroshio Sea: whale shark, and the world’s first manta ray successfully cultivated. In addition, the deep sea reproduces the mysterious deep-sea world of Okinawa, further experiencing the charm of the Okinawa sea. (Baidu Encyclopedia)
