Hello and KONNICHI WA! ๐ ๐ฏ๐ต
I would like to share with you my experience in Japan during Coronatimes – i have been there between 14th of February – 16th of April 2020.
Of course, at the beginning of the epidemic I was (like everyone) very concerned about the serious situation, but after I thought it through, in the end I actually even extended my stay for 1 month, as the situation in Europe was getting so much worse and it made no sense to fly back through overcrowded airports just to arrive at the Corona-epicenter of that time – Europe.
During my stay I felt very safe all the time and daily life in Japan seemed to continue more or less normally – except no crowded sights as there were no Chinese or Korean tourists at all!
To be honest – I even sometimes felt ike living in a parallel universe – seeing the global Lockdown on the news every morning and then going outside and to see everyone doing their daily routine.
I think Japanese people (apart from being the politest and most considerate people Iโve ever met โค) are naturally very calm and also have a lot of discipline when following the basic rules.
Also Social distancing is somehow part of their lifestyle as handshakes and hugs are not part of their daily life and using hand sanitizers and wearing masks – especially in crowded places – is not a big deal – also before Corona. You will also never see anyone blowing their nose in public.
In the end, Iโm very happy about my experience, but also returning home safe and healthy.
To all of you waiting until the borders of Japan will reopen up again – I feel you – itโs tough ๐ It happened to me last year – not because of corona – but other reasons.
To make me feel a little bit better, I used the time to do a massive research about Japan and ended up with more than 200 points of interest on mygooglemap. ๐ I think I NEVER had a trip planned that well! And it was absolutely worth it!
So keep on planning!
Times will change again!
If you would like to know the location of the spots/sights, Iโm more than happy to answer your questions. Just let me know the timestamp.
(by the way: Hadaka Matsuri Festival in the beginning and middle of the video was at the beginning of my journey on the 15th of February – seeing it right now – after everything went downhill – it actually gives me anxiety to see that many people on one spot! ๐ฎ ๐ โฆbut still – the BEST festival I have ever been! โค WOW!โฆ especially because normally Japanese people seem to be very reserved โฆ.at Hadaka Matsuri itโs the opposite! It takes place in Okayama every year around the 15th of February! If you are going to be around that area at that time – you definitely have to put it on your list!
I hope you enjoy the virtual trip!! ๐ค
