The old town in Düsseldorf is the historical, political and cultural centre of the state capital. The district is home to the town hall, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen art collection and the Düsseldorf Art Academy, among others. Large parts of the Old Town are pedestrian zones with numerous shops and restaurants. Over 300 pubs, discotheques and restaurants are concentrated here on half a square kilometre, which have given the old town its reputation as the “longest bar in the world”, as sung in the “Altbierlied” song. The front of the old town towards the Rhine is formed by the Rhine promenade.

I am starting this walk close to Maritime Museum then taking a quick stroll through the Altstadt (Old town) closeby. Right afterwards I am walking to the Heinrich Heine Station and head back to the Rathausplatz. I will then return to the restaurant and bar street. I hope you can relax and enjoy this beautiful walking tour in Düsseldorf (Western Germany) on a windy and rainy summer day.
