Hakone Tozan Railway – Japan's steepest mountain railway | Trip Report

The Hakone Tozan line connects Odawara to Gora. This is one of three mountain railways in Japan along with being the steepest. It recently ( July 2020) reopened after being damaged from a typhoon in 2019. This line has been in operation for almost 100 years.

Note: This is NOT JR track/ trains, so the JR pass is not valid on this train, or in Hakone. If you have the pass, the best way is to take a JR train to Odawara, and then by the HFP (the cheaper one which doesn’t include train from Tokyo)
