青海川駅（おうみがわえき）のプラットホームに降り立つと、目の前にはどこまでも続く日本海の水平線。青い空と青い海が混じり合う美しい光景が広がっています。日本一海に近い駅・青海川駅は、新潟県柏崎市にあります。
柏崎駅からJR信越本線の普通列車で2駅目の小さな無人駅です。
電車を降りると、そこは海。視界は青に包まれます。
そして寄せては返す波の音が繰り返し耳の奥に響きます。
なんという贅沢な景色。
しばし時を忘れてプラットホームに佇んでしまいました。
驚くのが、プラットホームのコンクリートの壁に波が打ち付けていることです。
風が強い日にはプラットホームにまで白波が届いてしまうのではないかと思うほどの近さ。
確かに、「海まで0秒の駅」という謳い文句に偽りはありません。
プラットホームから海と反対方向の山側を見ると、地上高さ53mの頭上に真っ赤な米山大橋（よねやまおおはし）がそびえ立っています。
青い空と赤い橋のコントラストが素晴らしい。
地上から53mの高さで車が行き交う様子を下から眺めるというのは、なんだか不思議な感じがします。
駅の反対ホームに渡る跨線橋に上ると、窓から絶景を見渡すことができます。
緑豊かな山の中に続く線路とトンネル、
駅に向かって白いしぶきをあげながら打ち寄せる荒波、
青やエメラルドグリーンに輝く海、
海と空の青を分ける水平線、
どこまでも広く青い空、白い雲・・・。
まさに、絶景。
一見の価値ありです。
さらに、日本海といえば、なんといっても夕日です。
青海川駅は夕日を見る最高のビューポイントでもあります。
天気のいい日は日本海に沈みゆく夕日を堪能できるでしょう。
動画に出てくる銀色のボディーにピンクと黄色のラインが入った電車は、JR東日本信越本線のE129系2両編成で、新潟の在来線です。
最後に駅を走り抜けていくのは、信越本線の特急しらゆきE653系です。
