Shuri Castle Okinawa – Japan Travel Guide | Vlog 25

If you’re new to Okinawa, Japan, you’ll have to check out the Shuri Castle site located right in Naha.

Shuri Castle will have you fully immersed within your surroundings and give you a glimpse of what old Okinawa was like.

Shuri Castle, also known as Shurijo Castle, was built in 1429 and was continued build by 1879.

Once you enter the castle, you’ll see a considerable influence of Chinese structures and architectural design.

As you can see, the Shuri castle served as a palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom, however throughout the times, the castle wasn’t taken care of and was taken for granted.

Additionally, the castle took heavy damages during 1945 throughout the Battle of Okinawa and was renovated in 1950 and became a university.
