How to Enjoy Japan Summer with the Kids (Wading Pool in Tokyo)
For someone who comes from a tropical country like Philippines, especially Cebu where there are a lot of beautiful white sand beaches, I would say that “Summer is Home”. Growing up it was a dream for me to experience 4 seasons, especially winter and playing with snow. My first snow experience was magical, I felt like a kid again at the age of 26, it was a dream come true! But after a week, I got full of it and realized that, I’m really a tropical girl. hahaha
I look forward for every summer, and although Tokyo’s summer is deadly hot, there are a lot of ways to beat the summer heat. One of the way to enjoy summer in Japan, especially when you have kids are the Splash Parks and Wading Pools, these are small shallow pools and fountains for children to play in. You can find it anywhere in Japan. These are often incorporated in municipal parks and the good news is, they are free! Wading pool in Japanese is called 水遊びプール (Mizuasobi pūru) “mizu” means “water”, “asobi” means “play”, and “puru” is a borrowed word “pool”, so it literally means Water Play Pool.
During our summer vacation, my girlfriends and I decided to go on a picnic together with our family and bring the kids to the wading pool to enjoy playing with the water. This spot is located in Ohanajaya, Katsushika-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
This is one of the great summer experience I have in Japan. How about you? Do you have any ways or activities in your local community to beat the heat and enjoy summer?
