Kisarazu (木更津市, Kisarazu-shi) is a city located in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
Kisarazu has a mixed economy based on commercial fishing, agriculture, and heavy industry along its Tokyo Bay shoreline. It serves as the commercial center for central Bōsō Peninsula, and is increasingly a bedroom community for neighboring Kimitsu and the Kawasaki – Yokohama metropolis across Tokyo Bay.

Kisarazu, on the Boso Peninsula , boasts some unusual attractions. It’s the starting point of the Aqua Line, a highway that takes you under the bay. Hikers will love Mt. Nokogiri , one of Chiba’s highest mountains, where you can peek into the pits of hell. The area is home to one of Japan’s largest Buddhas, as well as one of the Tokyo area’s major outlet malls.
The Kisarazu area is accessible by train from Tokyo, or the Aqua Line tunnel-bridge combination which traverses Tokyo Bay.
By train, Kisarazu and most of the area’s attractions are accessible via the Uchibo Line from Soga Station at the end of the JR Keiyo Line.
A more interesting way to visit is to take a bus trip on the Aqua Line, a highway that goes partially under Tokyo Bay, or the Tokyo Bay Ferry. Both depart from Kanagawa Prefecture on the west side of the bay.
Umihotaru is an artificial island that serves as the mid-point on the Aqua Line. Meaning “sea firefly” and surrounded by the sea, this rest stop features restaurants, shops, views of the bay and other facilities.
Sodegaura (袖ヶ浦市, Sodegaura-shi) is a city located in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It is bordered by Tokyo Bay to the west.
A stretch of bayside highway in Sodegaura along Tokyo Bay is colloquially known as “Chibafornia,” a portmanteau of Chiba and California, due to its resemblance to Southern California. The area has been used for television commercial and music video filming.

Ichihara (市原市, Ichihara-shi) is a city located in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
Ichihara is located in the western part of the Bōsō Peninsula, and geographically is the largest of Chiba Prefecture’s cities and towns. The highly industrialized northern part of the city sits on Tokyo Bay, while the southern part of the city is primarily mountainous. Ichihara, dense in housing developments, serves as a satellite town of Tokyo and Chiba City.
The city’s economy is fueled by a large industrial complex overlooking Tokyo Bay. It contains the largest number of oil refineries in Japan, as well as power, petrochemical and shipbuilding companies.
