南紀和歌山、本州で最も南にある大きな河川、古座川。
和歌山県南部のほぼ中央に位置し、清流を育む大塔山を源とします。
古座川流域には植魚の滝とお隣のハリオの滝はじめ多くの名瀑が存在しますが、
古座川弧状岩脈による岩々も見ものです。
中でも、
高池の虫食い岩、
牡丹岩、
古座川の一枚岩、
天柱岩、
などは道路沿いにあり、古座川の観光スポットとなっています。
源流部入口に着いたら川へ降り、大塔山の登山道を途中まで進みます。
何度か川を渡りますが、橋などは無く膝から下は確実に濡れることは覚悟しておきましょう。
最深部で川は二手に分かれ、
道もハリオの滝、大塔山、植魚の滝方面へと分岐します。
そして怪しい岩間に植魚の滝が現れます。
まるで洞窟の中に流れ落ちるかのような植魚の滝ですが、
天井は開けており洞窟ではありません。
これとよく似た滝に、兵庫県のシワガラノ滝や徳島県のふいご滝などがあります。
水は蒼く、非常に澄んでおりキレイです。
滝と共に暗がりに差し込む日の光が非常に神々しい光景です。
