南紀和歌山、南部和歌山のほぼど真ん中にある1000m級の山、大塔山。
その南東側の麓には古座川の源流部があります。
古座川流域には多くの名瀑が掛かりますが、
100mを越えるような派手なものはなく、個性的な滝や神秘的な滝が多いです。
よく知られている所では、
滝の拝、中津谷の滝、まぼろしの滝、ハリオの滝のお隣の植魚の滝
などがあります。
源流部の入り口まで来たら道路から川へ降ります。
途中まで大塔山の登山道を進みますが、川を渡る箇所もあり濡れることは覚悟しておきましょう。
登山道と分かれて川沿いに少し奥へ進むとハリオの滝が見えてきます。
滝の正面だけ深くなった岩の床、
そこに流れ込む清流。
日が当たると神秘的なグリーンに輝き、まるで別世界へ通じるかのようです。
緑の苔、赤や灰色の岩、そこに流れ込む清流
この色鮮やかさもこの滝の魅力の一つです。
