The National Art Museum of Osaka (Kokuritsu Kokusai Bijutsukan) covers two underground floors on Nakanoshima Island in the center of Osaka city. The main exhibits of the museum features Japanese and foreign contemporary art, showcasing exhibitions from the museum collection and special exhibitions.
The current building of the museum was opened in 2007 and was designed to symbolize the growth and shape of a bamboo plant. The facility was formerly housed in the Expo Museum of Fine Arts, which had been built for the Osaka Expo held in 1970.
Hours: 10:00 to 17:00 (close at 19:00 on Fridays)
Admission until 30 minutes before closing time
Closed: Mondays (or following day if Monday is a national holiday)
New Year holidays, and irregular closing for exhibition changeover
Admission: 420 yen (permanent collection), fees vary for special exhibitions
