The Minamiza is a famous theater located in the Gion area, on the southeast side of the bride over the Kamogawa River on Shijo Street. When visiting Kyoto, you will often run into this beautiful building when moving around the Shijo Street or when taking the Keihan railways at the Gion-Shijo Station.

In this day, I went for a walk from Oike Street passing by Teramachi Street (a street with many interesting stores), then passed by the Nishiki Market and then went to see the Minamiza Kabuki Theater.

The history of the Minamiza goes back to the year 1603, when a shrine maiden called Izumo no Okuni began to perform a way of dancing, acting and singing that is believed to be the roots of the famous Kabuki Theater; all this in the banks of the Kamogawa River, on the crossing of Shijo Street.

Nowadays, this impressive building holds not only Kabuki but some other cultural activities too.
