Trivia: Monjayaki looks like Okonomiyaki but it’s more soupy. Okonomiyaki is more popular in the Kansai area especially in Osaka and since I’m from Kansai, I prefer Okonomiyaki but if you are in Tsukishima, you gotta eat Monjayaki! Take a look at this video.
Tsukudani is eaten everywhere in Japan and completely rooted in Japanese meal, so I’ve never thought about its origin. But when I learned that a town called Tsukuda is the birth place, it made sense to me. Because the name Tsukudani means “Tsukuda boil”. Its preserved food boiled in soy sauce. Seaweed Tsukudani is the most well-known but there are a lot more other kinds.
