The San’in region, consisting of the Shimane and Tottori prefectures, is located about 600km west of Tokyo, Japan and nestled between the natural grandeur of the Chugoku Mountain range and the beautiful Sea of Japan.
Since the ancient times, the region is proud of its agriculture and fish industries, traditional crafts of papermaking, woodworking and pottery, food culture that includes sake brewing, and traditional performing arts, Kagura.
According to the myths and stories of the Izumo area (today’s eastern part of Shimane Prefecture) from 1300 years ago, legend states that Japan as a nation started here.
Starting with Izumo, through many regions where the interactions between deities and people exist, and mysterious spectacles of the San’in region, surely this is the birthplace of Japan.
