We thoroughly enjoyed our first international family trip to Tokyo, Japan and were able to bring our grandpa, grandma, and uncle along for the ride. Antonio, Estrella, Alain, Johanna, JC, Aniki, Amerie, and Obi Ignacio stayed in Nakameguro, close to a train station, and where they had the friendliest, tasty, intimate restaurants hosted by local hip hop fans and artists (see them drop rhymes in this video!). We ventured to the Tsukiji Fish Market to try the uni (sea urchin) bun and wagyu steak; Harajuku for the Meiji Shrine, a cat cafe, and shopping; Odaiba to see Gundam, the Rainbow Bridge, and check out Joypolis; Shibuya for the infamous street crossing and shopping (our favorite); the Ghibli Museum for some Totora fun and lessons in hand-drawn, full length animated movies; Asakusa for the Senso-Ji Temple, Taito Game Station (arcade) and street-fair style shopping; the Tokyo Skytree – the tallest tower in the world!; Kamakura to pay homage to the Great Buddha; Disney Sea for original Disney fun; Hakone to see Mt. Fuji; and took in some nightlife capped off with a taste of whale. We found our favorite stationery shop with the best pens (thanks @mdotchong), our favorite yakuniku restaurant, tried original Baskin n Robbins flavors and Lolo got to try squid ink pasta! We are thankful for our friends from the past who found time to hang out with us, and the new ones we made along the way. We have since learned more about the other places we didn’t catch so we can’t wait to go back!
