Hiking up Mount Nokogiri on the southern peninsula of Chiba. At the peak there is the famous Instagram spot, Jigoku Nozoki. There was a long line to take a picture on the popular ledge that looks like a staircase off of a mountain cliff. We later head down the other side of the mountain to visit the largest stone cut Buddha, Nihon-ji Daibutsu.
Mount Nokogiri is a famous spot for harvesting stone. There are vast straight carved sections of the mountain towards the top that are just stunning to look at. You can walk right up to the base of these massive sections of solid stone. There are also remnants of the original pulley system used to transport the stones from the top of the mountain to the bottom.
