Within the spacious, verdant grounds of the Hiroshima City Asa Zoological Park, you’ll find giraffes, African elephants, lesser panders, tigers and many other popular animals!
The park is currently working to increase its facilities where visitors can observe animals up close, such as the opening, in 2010, of the “Leo Glass” installation, which allows visitors to view lions through glass. At Pichiku Park, a petting zoo and popular spot within the park, visitors can interact directly with goats, sheep, guinea pigs and more; plus, pony rides are available on weekends and holidays. There are also many events to enjoy, such as the “Cool Night’s Safari” held in summer and the “Backyard Guide”, which is held every Saturday.
In addition, the park also engages in breeding activities in cooperation with other zoos in an effort to protect and preserve endangered species. The Hiroshima City Asa Zoological Park is proud to be one of the few zoos in Japan to succeed in breeding Japanese giant salamanders, black rhinoceros and zebras.
