Nijo Jinya is a former inn used by feudal lords, or daimyo, when they visited Kyoto during the Edo Period. For the purpose of guaranteeing the safety of the important guests, the building has contained various security gadgets, such as secret pathways, trap doors, hidden escape routes. The house has been again open to the public since January 2013 after extensive renovation works completed.

Tours of the intriguing house are conducted in Japanese only. If you do not understand Japanese, you need to bring a Japanese speaking friend or arrande your own interpreter for your own and the owner’s interest.
