Hikawa Maru was built at Yokohama Dockyard at 1929 as a passenger ship for Yokohama to Seatle service. During World War II, this ship served as a hospital ship. and after the war it is used as a repatriation ship. After the war the ship again resumed its service between Yokohama and Seattle. In May 1961 it was moored permanently at Yamashita Park.
