Description from Gwedo TTJ
Matsushima has a Kakinabe cruise or oyster hot pot cruise that starts in December and ends in March. Matsushima is famous for small shell oysters in Japan. Check out our Koei Suisan videos to see more about them. This cruise is a dinner cruise that starts in Shiogama at 11:30 am and goes to Matsushima or starts in Matsushima at 1:00 pm and goes to Shiogama. The boat trip is about 50min.

So what do you get for the around 3500yen? Each person gets 5 oysters in a hot pot with a hakusai (Japanese cabbage), shitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, spinach, and naruto. You also get an oyster with plum sauce, pickled cabbage, a mikan, and 4 tempura fried oysters. The 3500 yen also includes the tour boat price which is usually around 1400yen. Given that buying oysters in season at a restaurant in town costs anywhere from 200yen or more, you definitely get your money’s worth. Just remember you need to reserve your kakinabe in advance.

It is also a tour boat, so feel free to go to the third-floor rooftop and take in the sights. Matsushima has one of the most beautiful bays in the world as well as many unique rock formations.
