▼About the Yaegaki Shrine Gion festival Splash Water Festival (Quotation Source)
The Yaegaki Shrine Gion festival Splash Water Festival is held every year on August 4 and 5th. About 20 portable shrines are carried out from 10 towns, mainly Yaegaki Shrine.
The portable shrine carried along with the flute and drum’s light ohayashi is a unique style.
Watchers also dance their hearts when they parade under the energetic slogan, “Anryadonda”.
The feature of Gion Festival is to pour cold water on the procession of portable shrines.
There is a place where you can sprinkle the water full of a large truck like pouring down, and it is worth seeing.
In this Gion Festival, the old practice of nyonin kinsei was relaxed, and “Megami koshi” came to be performed.
It is attracting attention as a portable shrine carried only by women, which is extremely rare in Japan.
From the evening of the 4th (Sunday), 10 portable shrines are carried from each town by energetic women as if defeated by men.
The highlight is Mikoshi Rengo Togyo.
On the morning of the 5th (Monday), about 20 portable shrines and Hayashiren from 10 towns parade through the streets of Yokaichiba Elementary School.
In the evening, by the time they enter Yaegaki Shrine one after another, the vigor reaches its peak and you can see the powerful togyo of the bearers.
