Samurai School! Learning the arts war. Samurai, Ninjas and Japanese Warriors in Kyoto [4K]

Samurai swords, ninja shuriken and blow-darts! We’re learning the history of Japan’s feudal period when powerful families (daimyo) and warlords (shogun), and their warriors, the samurai ruled Japan!

We’re starting off with an early morning visit to the Kyoto Samurai and Ninja Museum. Being Japan’s largest experiential museum, I opt for the Samurai tameshigiri experience taught by master sensei Kuwabara (桑原先生) of the Tamiya School (彼は田宮流の先生です). Using a real samurai katana sword (and under close supervision!) I get to feel like a samurai, slashing rolled tatami mats with ease! After the sword lesson we’re given a full history lesson into ancient Japan and how the feudal system operated, lastly followed by Ninja lessons!

In the afternoon we visit the historic World Heritage site, Nijo Castle, the place where control of Japan was officially handed back to the Emperor ending the rule of the warlords.
