Firefly – Backpacking through Japan

Click CC for English or Dutch subtitles. 😀

Backpacking through Japan: Hiking up and down a mountain. After enjoying the beautiful countryside in all its firefly-y splendor, we headed for the small Yogo Lake behind the mountain. Once we reached the top, it was possible for us to hang up an Ema with one of our wishes for the kami. Eventually, we somehow made it down the mountain again. And here our next adventure begins. 😀

Ema (絵馬): small wooden plaques, common to Japan, in which Shinto and Buddhist worshippers write prayers or wishes.
Kami (神): the spirits or phenomena that are worshipped in the religion of Shinto. [Though the word kami is translated multiple ways into English, no one English word expresses its full meaning. The ambiguity of the meaning of kami is necessary, as it conveys the ambiguous nature of kami themselves.] (source: wikipedia)
