For the first time in over 3 months, we traveled again overnight in Japan. For a one day trip outside of Tokyo, we decided to spend the night in Kinugawa Onsen, an Onsen town long past its glory in Tochigi Prefecture, near Nikko. Once a bustling place that saw massive development in the 1980s during the economic boom, it now has many hotels and Ryokans that have been abandoned as the economy shrunk. Despite this, a few hotels are still operating and stunning nature is abundant there.
On the way back to Tokyo, we also checked out Utsunomiya, which is known as the Gyoza capital in Japan, with dozens of stores selling the famous meat and veggie filled dumplings.
