The Kametaya Sake Brewery is a beautiful site that feels like a country get-away, yet is only a 10 minute train ride from Matsumoto Station. Down an old salt road, right before all the rice paddies, you’ll find the brewery and almost 150 year old family home.

Best part: The preserved history and home of the family-owned sake brewery. The 6th generation owner gives the tours!

How to get there: Take a train from Matsumoto to Shimonii Station. It’s a 5-10 minute walk from the station.

When to go: They start tours of the home at 10am all year round. For a tour inside the brewery, call in advance. The owner speaks great English! These old buildings aren’t well insulated so it’ll be hot in the summer and freezing in the winter! Fall and Spring should be just right.
