🔴Negishi Forest Park
It’s an oasis hidden in an urban neighborhood setting. This is one of the largest parks in Yokohama with a surface area covering over 1800 square meters. On clear days there are impressive views of Yokohama Landmark Tower and Mount Fuji.
🔴History of Negishi Forest Park
The first western-style horse racing in Japan took place here in 1867. Horse racing had been held here until 1943. Shortly after the Second World War. the Horse Racing Track was requisitioned by the Occupation Forces and was used as a motor pool and a golf course.
In 1969, most of the race track area, which had been mainly used as a golf course, was returned to the Japanese Government. Later 1972, the City of Yokohama initiated to turn the site into a park. In October 1977, Yokohama officially opened the Negishi Forest Park at the same time that Japan Central Horse Race Association inaugurated the Race Horse Museum.
