Part 2 of our 27 day Tuk Tuk journey across Sri Lanka! We drove from the Golden Triangle into the highlands of Kandy and (Adam’s) Peak Wilderness.
We headed South East from Dambulla to Madura Oya National Park, exploring the Buddhist cave temples, experiencing Sri Lankan “hot springs” at Maha Oya, and conquering 18 Bends Road into Kandy. From there, we drove into the mountains, stopping at the very tall and very weird and winding Ambuluwawa Tower and Aberdeen Falls—one of the best waterfalls we’ve ever seen—on our way to Adam’s Peak.
Driving our own tuk tuk gave us freedom to explore any and every path (even if it was an “interesting” one). We highly recommend getting your own mode of transport if you want to experience everything Sri Lanka has to offer at your own pace.
We rented a tuk tuk from tuktukrental.com. Their business model supports local owners, they’re tuk tuks are great (Shawn has driven one before) and they have tons of useful information for renters including a detailed map of attractions from other drivers and a 24/7 WhatsApp text chain with everyone else driving around Sri Lanka. It’s great.
