This is the second episode of my (road)trip along the Silk Road. In this series I travel from Xi’an to Urumqi and on the way I stop in several places that once were part of the ancient Silk Road.
In this episode we leave Xi’an behind us and head for the Hexi Corridor. We take a high speed train and in about 7 hours we travel from Xi’an to Zhangye, which is located in the Gansu province.
With 7 hours on the train, this is a long travel day. We travel straight through the mountains, through a lot of tunnels. It isn’t until the last part of the journey that we see a little bit of the landscape. The landscape is beautiful and amazing with yellow flowers everywhere!
During this train ride I had plenty of time to read. During the road trip I read the following books about the Silk Road
